Canals Are My World
A reprint of Iris Bryce’s account of her travels with husband Owen and boat Bix
A new edition of the best-selling book in which Iris Bryce describes the canal journey she and her late husband, jazz musician Owen Bryce, made round the canal system in 1981-83.
Bix visits the ancient centres of Warwick, Lincoln and York; market towns like Boston and Retford; the riverside communities of Newark, Gainsborough and Selby; famous canal junctions such as Braunston, Hawkesbury and Fradley, and the workaday cities of Birmingham, Wakefield and Leeds. The scene ranges from canals in the backstreets of industrial towns to the remotest country reaches of navigable rivers.
